Pest Control Sevenoaks

Parkland, big houses and a lot of very old trees.

Pest Control in Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks has more parkland and estate landscape around it than almost anywhere else in Kent - Knole, the greensand ridge, and a large number of substantial houses in mature grounds.

Parkland is not woodland and it is not farmland. It behaves like neither, and it is worth saying how.

Parkland

Old Trees, Open Ground, and Deer

Ancient parkland has veteran trees full of cavities, open grazed ground between them, and very little disturbance. It supports a high density of squirrels, birds, bats and invertebrates, and the buildings on its edge inherit all of that.

Two things follow for property here.

Squirrels are relentless. Veteran trees plus accessible rooflines means loft squirrels are the single most common job in this area, and the only durable answer is proofing the roofline properly once rather than removing repeatedly.

Bats are a real consideration. Old buildings near parkland frequently have roosts, and bats and their roosts are protected by law whether or not bats are present at the time. We do not disturb them, and where a roost is suspected the work has to be planned around it - occasionally with a licensed ecologist. Anyone who offers to clear a loft without asking about bats is not thinking about it properly.

Large grounds also mean outbuildings, and the Chislehurst point applies here too: the problem usually starts in the building nobody uses.

Sevenoaks — Common Questions

We think we have bats as well as squirrels.

Then the job is planned around them. Bats and their roosts are protected whether or not bats are there at the time, and we will not disturb them.

Why do the squirrels keep coming back?

Because the roofline is still open. Removal without proofing is a repeat booking, and near parkland the pressure never lets up.

Do you cover Otford, Riverhead and Weald?

Yes, and the villages along the greensand ridge.
