Pest Control Dover

A working port, a lot of freight, and terraced housing on a very steep hill.

Pest Control in Dover

Dover is a port town, and a port is a place where things arrive. That is true of freight, of vehicles, and occasionally of insects that were not on the manifest.

It is also a town of steep terraces, Victorian seafront property and a good deal of housing that has been divided into flats, which is a separate set of problems from the port one.

A port town

Things That Arrive, and Buildings on a Hill

The port side. Premises handling freight, storage and haulage see hitchhiker problems that inland premises do not - cockroaches in consignments, stored product insects in pallets, and the occasional thing that nobody local recognises. If you run that kind of premises, the useful habit is keeping an example of whatever you find rather than describing it, because identification changes the treatment entirely.

The housing side. Dover's terraces climb, and a stepped terrace on a slope has a feature that a flat one does not: the drainage runs downhill through everybody, and a defect at the top of the row is felt at the bottom of it. Retaining walls, steps and the voids under raised front paths all give cover right against the building.

And the conversions. A lot of larger Victorian property here is now flats, which means shared roof voids, shared risers and a communal bin area that belongs to nobody. There is a separate article on flats and blocks because it comes up so often.

Dover — Common Questions

We run a haulage or storage business. Can you help?

Yes - commercial contracts with out-of-hours attendance and a written record. Keep a specimen of anything unusual; it changes the treatment.

I found an insect I do not recognise. What should I do?

Keep it in a pot or photograph it against something for scale, and ring us. That conversation is free and it is worth having before anybody treats anything.

Do you cover Aycliffe, River and Whitfield?

Yes, and the villages out towards Deal and Folkestone.
